Beretta Cougar Holsters
Introduced to the market by Beretta in 1992, the Cougar series was designed to target self defense and law enforcement users. Beretta felt that the model 92 was a large weapon for CCW so the Cougar was introduced to help fill the need for a more compact and lighter handgun.
The Cougar series had a number of models including the following:
- 8000 - The 8000 was the first of the Cougar models released, and was chambered for 9mm.
- 8040 - The 8040 was introduced in 1994. Chambered for a S&W .40 cal., it was designed to appeal to the growing number of .40 cal shooters.
- 8357 - Introduced in 1996, the 8357 was specifically chambered for the .357 Sig caliber. it was designed to specifically target law enforcement agencies who has adopted this cartridge. A number of prominent nationally recognized agencies like the N.C. Highway Patrol adopted this weapon for standard duty use, but it never really caught on so only limited numbers of this model were ever produced.
- 8045 - Introduced in 1995, the 8045 was chambered for the potent .45 ACP. This model, along with the 8000, proved to be the most popular Cougar series. The 8045 was excellent option for those who wanted a small, compact .45 ACP handgun.
In 2005, Beretta stopped producing and marketing the Cougar series under their name, but transitioned production, marketing, and sales of that series to Stoeger Industries, which is a subsidiary company of Beretta.
It should be noted that all the Cougar series are built on the same frame so they will usually all fit in the same holster. So, a holster for 8000 should also fit the 8040.
