I am looking for a good holster for a 38 Special can anyone suggest what is a good brand and where can I find one? The gun I have is a Taurus. I like it, but would like to get a good waist band holster as well as an ankle holster. Any suggestions???

    Not EBAY!

this is something that must fit you and the gun perfectly to function well. For the hip holster, you’ve got a lot of options, leather, nylon, hard plastic, inside, outside pants, etc. For the ankle, the options are probably fewer, but make sure your holster fits you. Most firearms instructors tell people to choose one mode of carry. You never need to pause even for half a second to think “Which holster did I wear today?”
Pick one holster, then always wear your weapon that same way, because if you’re ever in a fire/don’t fire situation, you don’t need any distraction/hesitation.

    Go to:

Fobus makes great holsters. I have 2 of them and never regret getting either one of them. Hopefully they have the holster for the model of gun you have. Just select Taurus in the drop down box in the middle of the home page.

    Safariland Holsters.
    Bianchi Holsters
and as a last resort..Hunter Holsters.

Holsters are very personal items that must suit you and your body……kinda like buying undergarments. There’s a selection because different people have different wants and needs.

Go to a gun shop or sporting goods store that carries a wide selection and look and inspect all that will fit your gun. From personal experience, one type does not fit all and sometimes you will buy two or more holsters until you find what works best for you.

Regarding the ankle holster, even a small Taurus .38 has some weight to it and having that strapped to your ankle cannot be comfortable. I know of no long term CCW holder or LEO that wears one. Shoulder, pocket, purse, belt or waistband.

You didn’t specify if you wanted a synthetic or leather holster, but..I would recommend a Bianchi synthetic holster. If you prefer leather they can be found fairly easily.

Ebay has lots & lots of them, New or Used.* Quality name Brands, reasonably priced.*

go to taurus website and find out exactly which model of taurus you have, and then use the holster wizard to find youself some good options

The only problem with the holster wizard is that it doesn’t seem to find ‘universal’ holsters so feel free to jump around in this part looking at stuff too

Here is a website for good quality holsters. Once you find the one you like search the web to find the best realistic price.

An ankle holster is the slowest to put into action and should only be used for a back up weapon (2nd gun) or if it’s the only way you can conceal it for the situation you are in at the time. An inside the waistband holster conceals the best, but will get uncomfortable sooner then a belt holster. a shoulder rig is nice but also has a limit as to how long it’s comfortable. a pancake holster with a thumb break offers comfort, concealabilty and security for the weapon and is my choice after trying many types and brands over several years.
It will take some trial and error to find whats right for you. Good brands-Bianchi, De Santis, Gould & Goodrich, Galco, Fobus, Safariland, High Noon Holsters, You could spend as little as $15.00 or as much as $200.00. If you plan on carring often consider getting a gun belt that’s made to support the weight of the weapon. There are several out there that look like a regular belt but will not sag under the weight of the weapon I found by experence that it’s worth the money for a good belt. Good luck and stay safe!
